Google Maps Street View has captured a chilling photo as it photographs a river.

The terrifying shot has caught two people walking along the stony bank of the river – but something is not quite right.

The two people down below are dressed identically and are putting the exact same foot forward as they stride forth.

To make matters even more spine-tingling, both of the people are looking directly at the Google camera.

No one else is in sight and there is something very forbidding about the pair’s direct gaze.

The viewer cannot help feeling as though the two people are staring right at them in a threatening fashion.

On closer inspection an even more creepy fact becomes clear – only one of them has a shadow.

Could there be something unearthly about the sinister duo taking what at first seemed an innocent riverside walk?

While it might well seem as though something nightmarish might be in play, there is likely a more rational explanation.

The alarming image is, in fact, the result of a technological glitch with the Google cameras.

There is in fact just one person by the river but they’ve accidentally been duplicated by Google

The photography splicing has caused the problem due to the way the images are assembled.

When taking the photo, the 360-degree cameras shoot multiple pictures to create the seamless image.

This is done by knitting the images together to make it seem realistic.

However, moving objects often ruin the scene as they shift when the photos are taken.

This is far from the first time such a bizarre image has captured by Google.

Google Maps Street View has previously snapped a photo of two smartly dressed people walking down the street in Alaska.

However, only the legs of the pair can be seen striding forth – they don’t appear to have upper bodies at all.

The people have been cut off around the upper thighs, yet their lower limbs are totally intact.

One appears to be carrying a black bag but it seems to be floating in the air next to the pair of legs.

Clearly, the two people have fallen foul of the same Google glitch the person by the river did.
