John Kitzhaber will host new travel series on KGW
More than three years after resigning from office in disgrace, John Kitzhaber is back in the public eye with a travel series on local TV.
The former Oregon governor will host “occasional segments” on KGW starting this week, the station announced Tuesday, in which he’ll travel to scenic destinations around the state to “showcase the state’s natural beauty and give insight into their significance.”
No other details about the segments have been announced.
Kitzhaber, 71, was elected governor four times – in 1994, 1998, 2010 and 2014 – but resigned from office in 2015 while under federal investigation for payments accepted by his fiance, Cylvia Hayes, from private groups that wanted to influence Oregon’s environmental and economic policies.
Federal prosecutors eventually decided not to pursue criminal charges, but earlier this year in an agreement with the Oregon Government Ethics Commission, Kitzhaber agreed to pay a $20,000 fine.
Now, it appears that Kitzhaber is ready for a new chapter in his career. KGW has not said where Kitzhaber will travel or what sort of scenic destinations he’ll highlight, but as Oregon is a place of seemingly endless natural beauty, there’s no shortage of places the former governor could go.
Of course, we do have a few ideas…
